Hellebores

14 Mar

sometimes these flowers are in my dreams

and the world is inside of a hellebore

my vision is that of a bug and these plants occur like giants

I observe the juices pulse inside of stems and leaves

I see every vein

I see flowers opening and unfolding

I love all their colors and shapes

just like the bees feed on them at a time

when other resources are yet scarce

sometimes in dream I hear them

move and unfurl

not so little froglings

so-called roses in the snow

stigmata the tips of serpent tongues

roots the dread head of Medusa

in my hand

eyes are

beneath are

diamonds

On the Train

3 Jan

On the train to Stralsund

Stay hungry. It worked for Michelangelo, it worked for Picasso, and it works for a hundred thousand artists who do it not for love (although that may play a part) but in order to put food on the table. If you want to translate the world, you need to use your appetites. Does this surprise you? It shouldn’t. There’s nothing as human hunger. There’s no creation without talent, I give you that, but talent is cheap. Talent goes begging. Hunger is the piston of art. That little girl I was telling you about? She found hers and used it. – Stephen King, Duma Key

Reading on the train. Arriving at the hotel I suddenly feel sick and have to vomit. Can’t eat for 3 days. Slowly the hunger is back. Temperance comes after the death card. Happy New Year everyone.

An alternative card, different from my standard photography business card

This card focusses more on my drawings and illustrations. I will use this card to promote my traditional work and give it to people interested in or in need of something hand-drawn, traditional portraits or unique illustrations for any purpose.  Fitting to the theme the card is printed on paper Vergé.

When working with herbs I also document some aspects and details. With some herbs I focus on the dried fruits and seeds and photograph them as random still lifes, experimenting with light and shadow. I do that as time permits, working on a little series there. Today Henbane in.

Introduction

27 Jun

Wiebke Rost is an illustrator, craftswoman and photographer, sometimes working under the pseudonym Xonia Abyssos. Wiebke originally studied medicine but she also freelanced for two German music zines. Through the work at the magazines she came in touch with Swedish cult band Dissection. Her photos of Dissection and other photography can be seen at her photo site. Wiebke also did a row of esoteric book illustrations. From the contact with the esoteric art scene, her studies of the occult, a deep contempt for anything ‘normal’ and a passionate interest in herbology sprang Teufelskunst, an art project in the widest sense, as it encompasses not only art but also a philosophy and way of living. Teufelskunst offers art, ritual supplies including incense and candles, talismans, fetishes as well as seeds and info for the weird practitioners of the sorcerous arte, who do grow their own herbs and study their lore.

Main inspirations: dreams, friends, nature, the news, other artists and mostoften simple random things
