Dissection 19-Tape Box and Photo Book

5 Jan

DSR 118 – DISSECTION tape box, including comprehensive photo book of the history of Dissection, released in 2021 by @dsr_productions

I received the box already in September last year, but have not posted or shared much since. In addition, I was not sure how I could communicate my feelings of gratitude and admiration for this important release. Time has of course also been an issue. So weeks and months passed, until I finally, by the end of December, grabbed the camera and simply took a few selfie shots with the book. I may be making some funny faces – enjoy. Despite all earnestness, there have also been incredibly hilarious moments, which are also present in the book. The book and tapes are really a wonderful piece of memorabilia.

Winter Solstice 2019

22 Dec

The fruits of mutual work, old and new alliances…

In December 2019, I finished fresh batches of “Rauhnächte” and “Winter Solstice” incense and started a new round of working with the birch’s arboreal spirit… Besides this, incense master Caroline Maxelon of Bussardflug and me began plotting a collaboration for 2020. Kicking it off, she sent me – along with a lot of powerful shamanic items for my ritual work – also her new book “Räucherstoffe aus aller Welt” (published by Nymphenburger). I was thrilled to read about so many new incense ingredients, that are not part of standard encyclopedias and which I had been discovering intuitively by myself over the past years. It feels, like my own wicked work and ‘wild’ incense formulas are now receiving confirmation and legitimization through Caroline and Christine Fuchs, who are icons and leaders in the field here in Germany. I thus highly recommend this book – both for its factual content as well as its photography.

Yesterday I received another surprise in my mail – the special edition of “Secret Ambrosian Fire” by German black metal originators MOSAIC (Eisenton Records). I was asked to compose an alchemical inspired plant sigil for this record, which now adorns the cover of the digi-pack edition. Only now, I begin to grasp the idea behind this conceptual opus magnum and it is deeply satisfying to witness the fruits of our mutual efforts!

Everything points in to a new direction in my life, but it is also getting more complex, along with all these new impulses. Today I thus went to different trees, burnt some of the winter incense and blessed the new birch wood pentacle, among a circle of young birch trees, as well as at the roots of two older birch trees, which are frequently visited by crows… For me, thus the circle of the old year closed and I can now head into another phase of consolidation and start creative work again after the holidays.

Samhain Celebration III

2 Nov

An Evening of Dark Art and Music (originally posted on teufelskunst.com)

The third Samhain Celebration combined again some of the best black metal as well as exclusive hand-made art. Ybenhain offered resin jewelry and items made of forest finds. You can check out the creations at the Ybenhain Instagram. In contrast, Black Arts of Mine creates all things from metal and bone. He contributed etched copper pendants and pins with the Samhain Harvest Seal for the event. Noteworthy,  the precision work on a copper hendecagram (see below). Weird, the metal chest with a fly engraving, housing a steel cased vial filled with a dozen dead flies. For more please visit the Black Arts of Mine Instagram. I myself contributed new art editions as well as an ever growing assortment of incense blends.

A reason for people to travel as far as from the States were the bands. I was able to take a few snapshots of Turia, and the Mosaic feat. Schwadorf set as well as Fyrnask.

Signature feature and fundament for the evening’s special atmosphere, always appreciated by the audience, is the unique stage, annually adorned with reeds, ivy, chestnut garlands, corn dolls, carved skulls and this year’s corn sun. Connecting it all since three years is the Seal of the Harvest in the back, which I once designed for the event.

The Samhain Celebration in Gotha is one of those rare occasions where I can show presence with my art and meet like-minded people. It is a unique combination of art, tradition, music and spirit, which both is highly satisfying for the performers as well as the audience. Making it all possible are the people of The House of Inkantation, Eisenwald and a handful of helpers.

Samhain Celebration II

Carved horse skull by Kvlt&Knochen, featuring the Samhain Harvest Seal

One week ago I took part in the second Samhain Celebration, hosted by the House of Inkantation, at The Londoner in Gotha. I attended bleary-eyed yet exited. I had worked until the very last minute on the artworks and merch, which included ink drawings of my sigilla magica, samples and glass jars with my self-made incense blends, the last Teufelskunst rosaries, postcards and the original art I had done for German doom band Werian.

The House of Inkantation folks prepared again a unique stage design, which was crowned by a horse skull, into which G. Bergfex of Kvlt&Knochen had carved and imbued with blood the official Samhain Harvest Seal. On the stage performed Rim Runa, Werian, Forndom, Sun of the Sleepless and Malokarpathan. Another special treat were the dedicated wooden boxes pyrographed by C. & M. Falkenstein.

My company, the photographer Anne Ida Helmer, has set herself the goal to document me – by all means not an easy task. But I was glad to have her around. We spend the whole weekend in Gotha, touching base and forging future plans. It was nice to finally meet some of the people in person, whom I had done artwork for, and to get to know new faces. I was overwhelmed by the support and interest in my work. This made me forget the sacrifices of the past weeks. It was also refreshing to get to witness new music, bands I had and had not heard of before. I come out of this gathering with new art commissions, possible participation in new events and more.

Thanks to all involved, who made this year’s celebration of the end of summer a success beyond expectations. Thanks in particular to the House of Inkantation/Eisenwald, Mosaic, Werian, Photos of Kaos, Kvlt&Knochen and friends from Austria and Switzerland, the rest of the merch team, Forndom and Anne.

Commemorating the 10 year anniversary of the “Dissection Midsummer Massacre”, I am making new photo maps. The map shown here was commissioned by a fan from Germany. The map contains 32 prints of my concert photos from the Dissection Midsummer Massacre + 1 band photo from the “Reinkaos” album booklet. The prints are 20 x 30 cm. Each photo is signed on the back. The map is hand-made from black photo-carton and the hendecagram on the cover is also drawn by hand. A short intro text accompanies the photo prints. Dissection Reinkaos Album Photography

1 May

Dissection, Reinkaos (Album Photo)

Seven years ago DISSECTION’S REINKAOS album came out – inside my concert and band photography, alongside amazing photos by Shelley Jambresic of www.metalpix.ch and reknown Swedish director/filmer/photographer/producer Mikael R. Hylin.

This photo went on the backside of the album booklet as well as a row of band t-shirts.

I thank everyone who worked hard to bring this album to manifestation.

Have a Blessed Walpurgis Night!
